American Trails' Engaging, Enabling, and Motivating Families and Diverse Trails Users
If you build it, who will come? Picture a typical trail user. Picture the person you'd see coming out the doors of the "hiking gear" store or modeling in their catalogue. No need to spell it out, while evolving, it is likely a white, affluent adult with an "active-lifestyle" body-type.
Now it's time to broaden that trail demographic. We need to find more effective ways to cast a broader net. Some of the target groups include: families with young children; people with more limited economic means and mobility, different ethnic groups and different levels of fitness and abilities that may not currently fit the current image of a trail user. Going forward, this will be a key to planning better trails, promoting more support of trails and building a broader constituency of people who regularly visit and enjoy trails. We want to find ways to promote a more rewarding experience for ALL groups, facilitate more diverse, equitable access, make more people feel welcomed, safe and motivated—to feel that trails are for them too. This should be key to the ways we plan and design trails and trails create better access mechanisms that encourage and enable more diverse visitation. Branding and messaging to make trails more appealing and accessible is also part of the picture.
This webinar will look at ways to expand the universe of trail visitors, considering planning, design, and messaging and discuss how welcoming more groups can build a stronger base of support by engaging a more diverse constituency of trails enthusiasts. The webinar presents four experts representing a diverse range of backgrounds and perspectives.
Bob Searns will serve as the moderator for this webinar.
Learning Objectives:
Planning trails with a broader constituency in mind
Promoting a more rewarding experience on the trail to the broader constituency
Branding and messaging to make trails more appealing and accessible |

FHWA's Value Capture Strategies and Asset Recycling: Advancing Public Infrastructure in a Time of Funding Uncertainty
An effective way to leverage public capital in a resource-constrained environment is to fund new infrastructure via "asset recycling," whereby proceeds from the lease of existing assets are redeployed in the development of new infrastructure. Federal Highway Administration Everyday Count Fifth Round (EDC-5) Value Capture Implementation Team will host a webinar October 18th, 2023, from 1:00pm to 3:00pm EDT that features Presenters that will discuss the State-of-Practice of Value Capture and Asset Recycling to advance public infrastructure in a time of change and uncertainty. Asset Recycling is the long-term leasing of aging existing facilities to well-qualified private partners and "recycling" the lease proceeds into new (but currently unfunded) infrastructure. It does not have to be a revenue generating facility. This new infrastructure creates value and attracts new development. Value Capture seeks a portion of this new created value to recycle to current or new infrastructure improvement needs. Value capture and asset recycling, among other strategies, can be used to create new funding sources. And when coupled with favorable concessionary finance structures, this can help make critical infrastructure projects affordable. value capture and asset recycling offer exciting new opportunities for local governments, its communities, and businesses to support such infrastructure investments and/or services. Come join us Thursday, October 18, from 1 to 3 pm ET to learn the full range of options for funding, financing, and project delivery/procurement. Do you need a transportation funding solution for your city, county, and township? Do you know which revenue tools are available to fund improved services and capital expenditures in your community? Do you need infrastructure to accommodate your communities' anticipated growth? Do you need assistance in bundling revenue and finance techniques to make project affordable? Come to the Value Capture Webinar on October 18th, 2023, to learn how Value Capture and Asset Recycling Concession can help your community. TARGET AUDIENCE: Metropolitan and rural planning/programming organization, States, cities, counties, townships, and tribal transportation professionals. Anyone involved in development or administration of value capture techniques is welcomed. |
