TRAINING AND COURSES

The TPCB Program collaborates with partner and training organizations to promote continuous education and professional training across a broad range of transportation planning subjects. The TPCB Program frequently collaborates with organizations such as the National Highway Institute (NHI) to develop and deliver transportation planning-related training both in-person and online. Training is designed to meet the needs of policy- and decision-makers, transportation officials, professional staff, and FHWA and FTA field staff. Customized training courses are tailored to specific audiences and proficiency levels.

Training and Course Spotlight

NHI trainings are designed to encourage nationwide application of state-of-the-practice techniques, and are developed in collaboration with professionals from FHWA. Courses are available in a variety of formats, from multi-day, in-person sessions to on-demand, web-based trainings. Notable courses include:

Video Learning

The FHWA Office of Planning produces a series of training videos on topics relevant to transportation planning. This series is to exchange information on planning tools; share common experiences and good practices across FHWA/FTA divisions and regional offices, State departments of transportation, metropolitan planning organizations, federal lands, and tribes; and establish a common knowledge base for all planners. Please visit any video below with additional videos to follow.
